calling health + beauty tips!

  • May. 13th, 2008 at 2:05 PM
ok, after this i promise to turn lj off and stop spamming. i feel like i post too much these days. but before that, i'm really desperate to hear all about your health and beauty talk. CUT FOR TMI )

ANYWAY, i'm curious about your health must-haves in general -- foods, products, regimens. i tend not to wear makeup (save for eyeliner and i'm a fan of bare escentuals when i need to doll it up a bit -- is there a better, healthier makeup brand for your skin/environment?), although tips where that's concerned are also welcome! i prefer organic sort of living, so if you have recommendations on that kind of thing, do tell?

my top three health-related must-haves: )

share me some of yours?

The single of Suga Shikao's NOBODY KNOWS (XXXHOLiC◆Kei Opening Theme) has been released in Japan today.

[info]clamp_now has some nice links to direct download the Special Edition, which contains, apart from the main song, two extra tracks, booklet scans (with illustration drawn by CLAMP), wallpapers and a screen-saver with the anime PV.

It's Suga Shikao, it's good stuff ^_~

I liked the CD design, by the way...

[books] prelim thoughts on chrestomanci, v1

  • May. 13th, 2008 at 2:30 PM
* The Chronicles of Chrestomanci v1 includes Charmed Life and The Lives of Christopher Chant in one collected volume.

- After Tsubasa, the idea of Related Worlds should not be new or surprising anymore. I think the way that DWJ structured her worlds makes more logical sense than CLAMP's.

- I approve of all of the Cats in these books, including the boy!Cat and the scary & vicious Throgmorten. Good thing I didn't read these books before I got Ren.

- Why are all of DWJ's wizards and/or enchanters such dandies? Between Howl and Chrestomanci, there's enough style and flamboyance to spread out over several worlds.

- To those of you who've read this series, should I continue with Conrad's Fate first, or does the order not really matter anymore?

Ca y est, j'ai investi dans une nouvelle imprimante (enfin investi... au final, ce sont mes parents qui financeront puisque c'est eux qui la garderont ^o^;;)
Ca me change de ma vieille, elle fait tout celle-là (sauf le café mais ça ne saurait tarder vu toutes les options débiles qu'ils ne cessent de rajouter sur le matos), du coup, j'ai même récupérer la fonction scanner..................... utile maintenant que je suis passée aux dessins entièrement réalisés à la tablette graphique -____-;;;;;
Je sens que le plus drôle maintenant, ça va être d'expliquer à mes parents à quoi servent tous les boutons ^o^;;;

Sinon Ziel, tu avais raison, j'ai retrouvé de manière complètement fortuite le fermoir de ma boucle d'oreille tortue en branchant l'alim de l'imprimante (j'avais pourtant regardé 20 fois à cet endroit ^^;; ).

And the punchline...

a break from inking

  • May. 14th, 2008 at 12:01 AM
I finally beat Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (the very first game). XD! I'm actually completing games on the DS. That is actually very rare. XD;;;; I'm really bad at finishing things in general since I have a very short attention span but DS games like Layton and Saiban are so so so so soooo good!! I love mystery games! I wonder if there's a detective game like Conan or something that's translated into English that we can solve mysteries and crimes~ THERE MUST BE!!! I know there are games like that in Japanese (like Time Hollow and the DN L game?) but not sure if there are translations though.

Can't wait to start the next one in the series.

*goes back to inking...still on page 2 OTZ||||*

My journal is really boring lately, isn't it? All either talking about doujinshi, because that's all I have been doing, or complaining about being depressed. Actually I haven't really talked about that so much. I have been having a really hard time, though I was so busy that I didn't really notice it. It is just sinking in that perhaps that is why I am constantly crying and unable to focus on stuff anymore that I was doing fine on before I went to America. orzzz

Exciting news posted in [info]gekipuri:
Tennis no Oujisama: The Imperial Presence Hyoutei Gakuen feat. Higa Chuu (tentative)
Date: July 29, 2008 to early October
Show Venues: Tokyo, and other places who cares- HYOUTEI!!! HYOUTEI!!! 氷のエンペラー!!!

Meanwhile, this month's big-three anime magazines are a huge steaming pile of awesome for OO/Geass goodies.

To be honest, I have been kind of afraid to talk about Code Geass because most of the people on my friends list who are into the show seem to be really into hating either Suzaku or Lelouch, whereas I mostly just want to make jokes about the show because I find it hilarious. Oh well. I guess you can consider this post my coming out party.

lots of rambling and some random scans of Geass/OO/Seed stuffs )

This is the reason why:

Sean and Takashi again, being fakegay and adorable. I love this joke between them. lol Because to an outsider, they're so convincing XD

Yay Toshi and Anna finished their job-hunting! XD That means I can hang out with my Japanese friends again. I hope there's a get-together soon so I can introduce Aramaki aaand if possible the really hot Kentaro to people. lol Aramaki's hilarious and with Kentaro they're like a manzai combi. XD ;o; Don't even need Kentaro really. I'm fine with laughing all day rather than ogling all day. ;3

Anyway, just wanted to share that picture. XD

Look! I'm doing a meme! I got it from [info]silverqe (unsolicited):

List ten fictional characters you would have sex with (in no particular order) and tag five people to do the same.

Do it if you want, though. This is my first, and probably last, meme. I never do them, because if I did them, then everyone would know what an asshole I am. Well. You would have empirical proof of what an asshole I am, preserved eternally online. Do I need that? No, I do not. This meme, though... No, I'm definitely an asshole.

1.) Mister Kusuriuri. I think Mr. Kusuriuri's "kusuriuri" might be [薬売り], but since I can't find it written anywhere, don't yell at me if it's not. He's ultra-pretty and not human, my two favorite things. Although, to be honest, I'd much rather have sex with his alter ego, Mister Iruirusuk(u). Or -- ? Yes, I would!

2.) Batman. He's Batman.

3.) Setsu. From Konoyo Ibun. Notice his not-incidental resemblance to Mister Kusuriuri. In addition to sleeping with Setsu, I would also make him breakfast the next morning. As long as I'm being honest.

4.) Dr. Gregory House. The adult woman who would turn down sex with House does not exist.

5.) Tom Brightwind. Or any of Susanna Clarke's fairies, actually. !!!!!

6.) Optimus Prime. He was my first love. We would work it out.

7.) The Pied Piper of Hamelin. When I was little, I used to imagine that he would come find me and we'd get married, and then he'd teach me how to play the flute. So if we hooked up now, it would be like Sabrina, sort of, only really, really creepy. Oh my god, I'm insane.

8.) Prince Afternoon and Evening Thunder Showers. From Final Fantasy 13: Versus. Seriously.

9.) Jack Skellington. More or less my ideal husband.

10.) General Marian Cross. It would have to be a one-night stand, though.

See? Asshole.

(You may be wondering why I didn't list John Uskglass. It's because I'm scared. Also I would die of performance anxiety before anything ever happened.)

(My icon represents Mister Iruirusuk(u)'s reaction to my persistent attempts to have sex with him against his will.)

SOMEONE IS IN ***BIG TROUBLE***

YOU'D BETTER WATCH YOUR BACK, [info]rathanylakan.

this is only funny when you realize she's the vice-chair of Kumori-con, started the go club at PSU, has read more yaoi series than I've read porno fanfics, and went to a butler cafe despite being violently allergic to everything they served. She also got me the Hello Alchemist notepad at the Otome Road store.

.....and I suppose I could have logged out on Amy's computer ¬_¬

MEG: and it's totally superstraight how Jun is all enthusiastic over this girl's first kiss. It's not like he is intimately familiar with all the cliches from shoujo manga or anything.
BECKY: ....I think I may have just snorted with laughter.
MEG: I'm laughing a lot
BECKY: I really don't know what people do or how they live their lives without laughing a Jun a whole lot.
MEG: their lives are empty
MEG: wouldn't you hate to take Arashi seriously?
BECKY: Can you imagine it? Thinking they're perfect and cool, all the time?
MEG: poor things.
BECKY: Thinking everything they do is really interesting and that they're perfect, dreamy boyfriend material?
MEG: stooooop itttt you're making me scare the dog
BECKY: But! Look at how fashionably they're dressed! They look so cool and stylish!
BECKY: How can you make fun of that?? :<
MEG: three words: yellow acrylic pelt.
BECKY: I still say nothing beats the Yabaix3 solo outfit.
MEG: what, the Atlantic City bingo babe one?
BECKY: With the leopard print jacket and the hot pink sparkly pants and neon chartreuse pompom, yes.
MEG: Sho told him not to pick out a costume on two cans of Red Bull and three hours of sleep in the last forty-eight.
BECKY: But no Jun insisted that he liked it, really really really.
MEG: and then when he recovered from the blunt object to the back of the head, he was like, ....still kind of like it, and Sho was like ._. mou ii.
BECKY: And Jun's kind of half-convinced that maybe sleep deprivation frees him from all the other clutter in his mind and he makes TOTALLY AWESOME DECISIONS when he's only had two hours of sleep in the last thirty-six and maybe he should try that more often. Sho looks like maybe he wants to cry a little.
MEG: Nino just orders in more chloroform.
MEG: "but I've always wanted to knock someone out with ether! THIS IS THE PERFECT CHANCE." "STOP DRUGGING MATSUJUN."
BECKY: Nino sullenly kicks invisible rocks. He was just trying to help, you know, Sho-chan. :<
MEG: Sho-chan remains firm. It just upsets Aiba when they drug Jun-chan.

Let's talk about stuff from the Good Ol' U.S. of A for a change!

Lazin' on a Sunny Afternoon

  • May. 12th, 2008 at 10:14 PM
I meant to have something written for you guys today but, um, I don't. This is because I spent the weekend luxuriating in the sunlight.

Don't get me wrong. I like Ireland fine, but our seasons go much like this: chill wintry rain, brisk autumnal rain, refreshing spring rain and gentle summery rain. Sometimes hail and snow happens, which we deal with exactly as we would deal with the zombie apocalypse: Fear! Panic! Stock up on the food supplies! Shoot everyone in the head before they eat your brains and the brains of everyone you love! (Maybe not that last part.) But I love sunshine, and it happens so rarely in Ireland I took advantage of this sunshiny weekend to go shopping and lie in the parks with my flatmates.

SARAH: I now have everything in the world. Including cocoa butter shower gel.
DURHAM LASS: Oh, you think you're just so sophisticated, don't you?
SARAH: With my new shower gel, I can say in all confidence that I do.
DURHAM LASS: And you like to rub it in my face.
SARAH: ...
DURHAM LASS: The sophistication! The sophistication, not the gel.

A lady disrobed before us at the Iveagh Gardens where we lay sunning ourselves and caused a sensation.

JENNET: I am glad that neither of you girls are ever possessed by an urge to strip down to your skivvies. I would be badly startled.
DURHAM LASS: I wouldn't bat an eye if Sarah did it.

This was obviously a reference to a Certain Easily Misunderstood Episode of my girlhood. I will explain it to you, so that you understand that the Durham Lass in mentioning this was being completely unfair in casting aspersions on my virtue. Because none of it was my fault.

As I may have mentioned before, I had something of a youthful weakness for dares. I was sitting around a lunch room in my convent school with several other girls, when one of them dared me to climb into a very tiny cupboard.

Naturally, I took and triumphantly completed the dare. I crowed my triumph from inside my tiny cage.

Then I tried to get out.

That didn't go so well. Jammed up very small in a tiny prison of wood, I began to feel uneasy about the entire situation. But my trusty comrades told me not to panic.

Our Catholic schoolgirl uniform (everyone turn off the va-va-voom music right now!) was thick and woollen to prevent any males of the species who might ever behold us from guessing we had any shapes at all. As one girl wisely pointed out, the uniform took up a lot of room. Surely without clothing, I would have room to wiggle out and be free!

Carefully my schoolfriends tore my uniform off. (Seriously, enough with the music.)

Then I tried to make my escape. Unfortunately, I was still stuck fast.

At this point I felt it was well past time for panic, but then another schoolfriend had a brainwave. Think of the phrase slippery as a greased pig, she said loudly!

The statement was sufficiently bizarre that I stopped hyperventilating in order to demand an explanation.

She explained that greased pigs are apparently slippery enough so that people can't catch them. Apparently this is an actual sport in some places. People trapped in cupboards wearing only their delicates shouldn't judge others, so I simply nodded.

She then seized up the butter dish on our table and advanced on me with a terrible glint in her eye.

People trapped in cupboards can't run. So I endured, and it was working! Slowly but surely I eased my way out of the cupboard.

I was almost free when our Matron, a plump but severe lady in a crisp white uniform, came in to check on us. She stood transfixed in the doorway as she beheld three girls diligently applying butter to another student, as said student flailed half in and half out of a very small cupboard.

Eventually she said 'GIRLS! That butter belongs to the school, you know.'

For the next two years I went to convent school (until I didn't anymore, and that is several other stories) and all any of us had to do was whisper 'That butter belongs to the school, you know' for us to break down laughing. It also became a regular term for something that was forbidden: someone else's boyfriend? A trip out of bounds? School butter.

That aside, I hope you can all see that the Durham Lass's accusation was utterly unfounded. Because I generally regard public disrobing as total school butter.

While lying about in parks, I also thought up the breakfast game. I mention this mostly because when I made up the paintbucket game, the fabulous Helen actually played it. (And there are pictures to prove it.)

So the breakfast game also requires a field, and then - a fight with breakfast things. Yoghurt. Oatmeal. Milk. Honey in squeezy bottles. But the most important weapon in the game - cereal. Imagine how fun it would be to hit other people with cereal that you've taken out of the box but not out of the plastic bag. You hit them over the head and the bag explodes on impact, and you get about a hundred points.

Of course I realise this would leave me with hair gloopy with honey and yoghurt and Rice Krispies stuck to it, but I feel it would be completely worth it.

So there you have it: the embarrassing truth about what I have done with my weekend. I promise to be a more worthwhile person and come back with useful things very soon. Until then, consider playing the breakfast game.
